Virtual strings
Every note is a real recording of a section playing together: cellos for the low notes, violas through the middle, violins from just above middle C to high D. Each was measured and tuned to the exact pitch, and held notes keep the players' own vibrato for up to eight seconds.
On a velocity-sensitive MIDI keyboard, a light touch plays the section softly and a firmer one plays it full. Hold the sustain pedal and a chord rings on like a film score. On letter keys you get the full sound, and Z is a real C.
